Watermelon Basil White Sangria

This Watermelon Basil Sangria recipe is a refreshing and tasty summer cocktail that’s easy to make with few ingredients- dry white wine, orange liqueur, fresh watermelon, watermelon syrup and lime. It’s perfect for pool parties!

This watermelon sangria recipe is a white wine sangria that I make with a dry white wine. I don’t use Moscato because I find it to be too sweet when added with the other sweet ingredients.

Watermelon is a staple at summer barbecues therefore, it’s in high demand and it’s easily to understand why. Makin drinks with watermelon is fun too. Check out my popular Watermelon Pineapple Mint Mojitos.

I’d gotten this cocktail idea from a good bartender when I was on vacation in Zion, UT. He told me it was a very popular drink at his bar. The only problem I had was easily finding basil bitters so, I omitted them but, still made up a delicious concoction.

I tinkered around with the ingredients and perfected it to be a delicious summer drink.

  • Sauvignon Blanc (you may use Pinot Grigio or Chardonnay)
  • Cointreau orange liqueur
  • seedless watermelon (for puree and cubes)
  • watermelon syrup
  • fresh basil leaves
  • lime juice

Instructions

First, using a muddler, muddle the basil leaves and put the extracted juice and basil leaves into a large pitcher.

Next, add the dry white wine, Cointreau, watermelon puree, watermelon chunks and lime juice. Cover and chill in refrigerator for 45 minutes.

Then, pour the sangria into wine glasses and garnish with thin watermelon slices and basil twigs. Serve cold and with ice cubes if desired, however the ice cubes will water down the drink if it sits long so I suggest add them just before serving.
