Peanut Butter Pie is an American comfort food dessert to say the least. It’s usually the first dessert to disappear at parties. You know you need to be one of the first to get a piece. Am I right?
I couldn’t wait to cut into this pie and then, I couldn’t get enough of it.
It’s a great year round dessert because it’s easy-to-make, has little prep and requires no baking.
One thing I don’t like about the average peanut butter pie is that it’s typically too sweet, too rich and thereby too heavy. But, that’s not the case with this yummy peanut butter pie.
This is a creamy peanut butter pie has both Cool Whip and a bit of heavy cream. It’s mixed with creamy peanut butter and cream cheese and sweetened a little further with powdered sugar.
Using Cool Whip for this recipe saves a LOT of calories!
It’s so easy that teens can make it. That’s a plus.

- 1 chocolate cookie pie crust (nine inch)
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 8 oz non-dairy whipped topping (i.e. Cool Whip)
- 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup mini Reese Peanut Butter Cups
- 2 tbsp chocolate ice cream topping or chocolate sauce
I bought Reeses Minis Peanut Butter Cups unwrapped in order to save me from the tedious task of unwrapping numerous mini peanut butter cups. Plus, it saves time.
First, mix the cream cheese, heavy cream, powdered sugar, Cool Whip and peanut butter together.
Then, stir in the chocolate chips.
Next, add the pie mixture to the chocolate cookie crust.
Then, slice the mini peanut butter cups in half and place them on top.
Next, drizzle with chocolate sauce. I used Smucker’s Magic Shell Ice Cream Topping because it hardens. Just be sure to shake it first as it separates when it sits.
Put as many or as little of the peanut butter cups as you like.
Additions and Substitutions
- Use a graham cracker pie crust if you prefer.
- Use mini chocolate chips if that’s what you have on-hand.
- Regular size peanut butter cups can be used. Justi quarter or chop them.
- Add salted peanut on top, if desired.
