Italian Meat Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef, 85% lean or higher
- 6 cloves minced garlic
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 29 oz canned tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp EVOO
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
It’s so easy-to-make.
First, saute the onions and garlic in the olive oil for a few minutes.
Then, add the ground beef and break it into pieces. I use a meat chopper to do this. It’s great for tacos too.
Brown the ground beef for a few minutes.
Next, add the canned tomato sauce and the Italian seasoning. Stir, cover and cook for another 15-20 minutes. That’s it!
Add this Italian meat sauce to any pasta you like for an easy pasta dish.
Use this recipe to make lasagna or Zucchini Lasagna with Ground Beef but, I recommend doubling the amount of ground beef you use.
Substitutions
- If you decide to use a fattier ground beef, such as 73% lean, be sure to drain the fat before adding the tomato sauce. Otherwise it will be greasy.
- For a chunkier meat sauce, use 29 oz dice tomatoes or crushed tomatoes
- Use 1/2 tsp of garlic powder, if you don’t have fresh garlic.
- Use dried Italian parsley flakes or basil if you don’t have Italian seasoning.
You will love using this homemade meat sauce to put over your pasta. It tastes great on ravioli, stuffed shells, manicotti or any other pasta!
