Creamy homemade ham pot pie is a delicious and wholesome family meal made with ham cubes, peas, carrots in a creamy cheese sauce. Make it with leftover ham or ham cubes.
This ham pot pie is very much like my chicken pot pie except with ham and some cheddar cheese. My family loves both recipes!

Use leftover Thanksgiving or Easter ham to make this recipe. If you don’t have leftover ham, use ham cubes or cut up a ham steak.
Using refrigerated pie crusts makes the prep time easy for this recipe. I also use frozen peas and carrots to save some prep time for the peeling and cutting of the carrots. You may use canned if you prefer.
Another time saver is using frozen diced onions. I love this little trick because it doesn’t sacrifice the flavor too much and is great when you’re short on time or don’t have a fresh onion lying around.
Instructions
- First, preheat the oven to 400F.
- Meanwhile, in a large sauce pan on med/high heat, add butter and onions. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until onion is tender.
- Then, stir in the flour. Add a little bit of milk at a time while stirring. Add ham cubes, broth and continue to stir until creamy and it starts to bubble.
- Next, add the peas and carrots followed by the garlic powder, celery seed, salt and pepper. Add cheese and stir. Continue to cook, covered for 5 min and then add the ham cubes. Cook another 3 minutes to reheat.
- Then, place one refrigerated pie crust on the bottom of an 8″x8″x3″ inch baking dish while pressing it into the sides of the dish.
- Next, pour the ham mixture on the top of the pie crust.
- Then, place the other pie crust on top and seal the edges. Pierce two small slits in the middle of the top pie rust.
- Next, brush the egg white onto the top of the pie crust. This will give it an appealing shine after it bakes although it’s not necessary.
- Then, bake it on 400F on middle rack for 35 min. Allow pie to rest for 10-15 min before cutting and serving. It will be piping hot!
I don’t add salt to this recipe because ham and chicken broth are already heavily salted in my opinion. Feel free to add salt if you desire.
This ham pot pie is so easy to make with leftover ham or store bought ham cubes. It’s a tasty and hearty meal the whole family will enjoy and want seconds.
Delicious!
