I saw this dish in my favorite Italian restaurant which luckily is only 5 minutes from my house. I knew I had to add it to my blog especially because I had six bags of gnocchi in my freezer waiting to be cooked.

This is a great way to eat gnocchi if you don’t like tomato sauce or creamy sauces.

This Italian pasta dish is easy-to-make with few, inexpensive ingredients. It’s quite economical to make with leftover sausage and it’s quite tasty.

Use hot Italian sausage if you prefer or add some crushed red pepper flakes to add a little spice.

Substitutions

  • Use orechiette or medium shells pasta instead of gnocchi if that’s what you have on hand.
  • Use hot Italian sausage if you prefer it spicy.
  • If you don’t have broccoli rabe, use fresh, cooked broccoli florets.

This pasta dish is a yummy all-in-one meal that’s filling for nights you just want to get dinner on the table quickly. It’s a good way to use up leftover sausage and is ready in just 30 minutes!

Gnocchi Broccoli Rabe and Italian Sausage

Gnocchi Broccoli Rabe and Italian Sausage is an all-in-one dish Italian pasta dish that's filling and easy-to-make for nights you want big flavor with little effort. 

Ingredients
  

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 lb broccoli rabe, cleaned and chopped
  • 8 oz cooked Italian sausage links (2-3) cut into 1/4 inch thick pieces.
  • 14 oz frozen gnocchi
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  • First, add the oil and garlic to a large frying pan. Cook garlic for two minutes or so but, do not let it burn.
  • Next, add broccoli rabe to oil. Be careful of oil splatters. Cook for 15 minutes or until stems are tender.
  • Meanwhile, cook the gnocchi according to package directions in salted water. Drain.
  • Then, when the broccoli is tender, add the sausage to heat it up.
  • Next, add drained gnocchi to the broccoli rabe mixture and stir it. Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add grated Parmesan cheese if desired (optional.)
