The first time I had this pie was when I was visiting my in-laws in Florida. My mother-in-law served it for dessert and I instantly loved it! It’s tart, sweet and creamy! It’s a delicious, frozen variety of Best Key West Florida Key Lime Pie.
It’s such a great summer dessert because it’s refreshing on those hot and humid summer days. Plus, you can make it days ahead for parties. It’s perfect to take to a pool party!
I just love the tart taste of it.
Check out my Frozen Lemonade Pie recipe too. It’s the lemon version of this recipe.
Did you even know “key limes” were a thing? They are different than regular limes in that they are more tart. Key Lime Pie is all over the Florida Keys. We had it in Key Largo and I just knew I had to bring back key limes in my suitcase!
Here’s what key limes look like:
They look just like regular limes but, as I mentioned are more tart. They make a great pie!
Now, there are many variations of the traditional key lime pie but, I find this one to be much less caloric than using whipped cream or cream cheese. It tastes just as great too.

Key Lime Cool Whip Pie
*The full printable recipe is at the bottom of this post.
As I mentioned this frozen key lime pie is SUPER EASY to make with just four ingredients! See how delicious it looks!
Ingredients:
- 5 fresh key limes or 1/2 cup of bottled key lime juice
- 8 oz Cool Whip Lite
- 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- graham cracker pie crust
- 1 tsp key lime zest (optional)
If you can’t find “key limes” in the produce department of your grocery store, you can either use regular limes (but the pie won’t be as tart) or you can buy bottled key lime juice. I suggest using the bottled juice so you don’t sacrifice the extra tartness.
Therefore, if you’re going to use bottled key lime juice, you can skip adding the key lime zest to the pie batter.
Instructions
Add all of the ingredients except for the pie crust in a large mixing bowl and combine well. Pour the mixture into the pie crust, cover and freeze overnight or eight hours. Keep it frozen until ready to serve. You can make your own graham cracker pie crust if you prefer. The instructions are below.
You can garnish it with lime slices, whipped cream or some Cool Whip but, don’t forget to buy an extra container.
How to make a graham cracker pie crust
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups of graham cracker crumbs or use gluten-free graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup of sugar
5 tbsp melted butter
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375F. In a medium sized mixing bowl, add all of the ingredients and stir together until well mixed. Press the graham cracker mixture evenly into the bottom of an ungreased 8 or 9 inch pie plate. Bake at 375F for ten minutes and cool before filling. Alternatively, you may refrigerate the crust for 25 minutes instead of baking it.
