I just LOVE using elderflower liqueur in this sangria recipe. It adds sophistication and flavor. I use it in my popular

Ingredients

  • 750 ml Sauvignon Blanc dry white wine (chardonnay or pinot grigio)
  • 1/4 cup elderflower liqueur (St. Germain's)
  • 3/4 cup pineapple juice (or 6 oz canned pineapple juice)
  • 8 large fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 1/4 cup fresh pineapple chunks
  • 8 oz lemon lime soda (for flavor and fizz) (or 7.5 oz can)
  • 6 fresh strawberries for garnish

Instructions

  • First, fresh sliced strawberries and pineapple chunks into a large pitcher.
  • Next, add the liquids- 750 ml Sauvignon Blanc dry white wine, 1/4 elderflower liqueur and 3/4 cup pineapple juice cocktail. Reserve lemon-lime soda for before serving.
  • Then, give it a good stir, cover with plastic wrap and place in your refrigerator for 3 hours for the flavors to meld.
  • Before you serve it, add the 3/4 cup of lemon-lime soda and stir it. Adding it beforehand will make the soda go flat ( or lose carbonation.)
  • Pour sangria into a glass. Garnish with strawberries.

Notes

Nutritional info includes optional ingredients and does include the flesh of the apple although the instructions tell you to peel it.
Store it in the refrigerator for the flavors to meld and if there are any leftovers.
I think the soda gives it enough sweetness but, if you think this drink isn't sweet enough, add 1/4 cup of simple syrup.
Add a sprig of rosemary for garnish if you don't have cinnamon sticks.

Substitutions

  • Use Pinot Grigio instead of Sauvignon Blanc.
  • Use white grape juice instead of white cranberry juice (as this can be hard to find.)
  • Use triple sec instead of Cointreau orange liqueur.
