Easy Steak alla Pizzaiola-One Pan

This super easy and tasty tender Steak alla Pizzaiola recipe is made in ONE PAN with just 6 INGREDIENTS IN 30 MIN! It has a tasty chunky tomato sauce you make right in the pan with the pork chops. It’s low-carb, gluten-free and perfect for busy weeknights.

Like my Pork Chops alla Pizzaiola, when you see how tasty and easy this recipe is to make, you’ll want to put it on your dinner rotation. Tender steak flavored with tomatoes, onions and garlic is something your family will look forward to, especially when they smell the aroma in your kitchen!

It’s the perfect recipe for weeknight dinners when you are too tired to do much cooking, let alone wash a bunch of dishes. Serve it with pasta and dinner is done!

Steak alla Pizzaiola

The canned tomatoes in this recipe transform into a delicious tomato sauce because they’re cooked in wonderful aromatics- extra virgin olive oil, garlic and onions. This sauce is also flavored from the steak and the steak flavors the sauce- just like my popular meatballs!

Ingredients

  • sirloin steak or rib eye steak
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • garlic
  • onions
  • Italian seasoning
  • canned crushed tomatoes

Instructions Summary

  1. First, sear the steak in olive oil and garlic. Be sure the pan is very hot first.
  2. Meanwhile, slice the onion.
  3. Next, remove steak from pan and add the onions. and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Then, add the steak back to the pan and cover with tomatoes and Italian seasoning. Cook covered for 25 minutes. If you prefer the steak to be a little pink inside, check doneness about 5 minutes earlier.

Substitutions

  • Use Italian seasoned canned dice tomatoes and you can omit the Italian seasoning or use less of it.
  • Try boneless skinless chicken breast or chicken thighs. Cooking time may be longer.
  • Use Herbs de Provence, basil or parsley, if you don’t have Italian seasoning.
  • Use garlic powder instead of fresh.
  • Instead of onions, use shallots.
  • Top with provolone or mozzarella cheese and cover until melted (1 min or less.) Or, sprinkle some grated parmesan cheese over top before serving.

Steak alla Pizzaiola

Tomatoes, onions, garlic, olive oil and Italian seasonings gives this steak a wonderful flavor all in one pan. It's and easy, low-carb, weeknight dinner ready in 30 minutes with few ingredients!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 lbs sirloin steak (or rib eye steak)
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup onion (1 small onion)
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes with juice (or diced tomatoes with juice)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • First, in a large 3 inch deep skillet on high heat, add olive oil and chopped garlic. Meanwhile, sprinkle both sides of the steak with salt and pepper to taste. Sear and brown the steak on each side for 2-3 minutes.

  • Meanwhile, slice the onion thinly.
  • Next, remove steak from the skillet and place on a plate. Add sliced onions to the skillet and cook for two minutes.

  • Then, place steak back in the skillet. Add the Italian seasoning and pour the tomatoes on top of the steak.

  • Last, cover and cook for 25 minutes.
