Easy Star Berry Pie Patriotic Dessert
Tools
different sized star cookie cutters
Ingredients
- 42 oz good quality blueberry pie filling (or blackberry, cherry, strawberry)
- 14 oz refrigerated pie crusts
- 1 egg white (optional: to brush on dough to make it look more appealing)
- powdered sugar (optional: to decorate)
You can use the same star cookie cutter size to make all of the stars but, it looks better to use different sizes and has more affect.
Instructions
First, preheat oven to 350F.
Next, roll out the pie crusts and put one into a 9 inch pie plate.
Then, carefully and neatly add the blueberry pie filling to the pie crust.
Then, using star cookie cutters, cut out different sized stars.
Next, carefully place the larger cut out stars on top of the blueberry pie filling followed by the smaller stars and overlap some of them as needed.
Also, I added some more pastry dough to the edges to thicken the crust edges.
Then, using a fork, gently press on the sides of the pie crust to make ridges.
Then, optional: very gently brush the egg white on the star cut outs and pie crust ridges. This will make the dough look more appetizing when it comes out of the oven.
Then, place the pie in the oven and bake on 350F for about 45 minutes.
Last, optional: when the pie has cooled, use a sifter to sift the powdered sugar on top of the pie. It makes it look pretty and special. It gives it pizazz.
Make this simple fruit-filled patriotic pie for Memorial Day or July 4th parties. It will look great on the dessert table and any host would be happy to receive it.
