This Peaches Soaked in Red Wine Recipe is a simply delicious after dinner treat made with ripe peaches and your favorite red wine.
Juicy, ripe peaches are a summer favorite and what a great way to enjoy them but, soaked in your favorite red wine? Plus, it’s a good way to use up ripe, sweet peaches when peaches are in season and they’re at their peak freshness and juiciness.

My favorite uncle, who like my parents, was an Italian immigrant from Southern Italy. He LOVED his wine and even had a wine cellar made in his basement for his wine-making. It was so good!
I’ve never know anyone who liked wine more than he.
Sitting at the dinner table on a hot summer night after he’d finish his plate, he’d peel a ripe peach and put it in his wine glass. He’d already drank a glass or two of his homemade red wine during dinner by that time.
Then, he’d fill the glass with wine and let the peach slices sit in it for about 5-10 minutes so the peach juices would combine with the wine. Next, he’d put a fork in it and begin to eat the peaches soaked in red wine.
It’s yummy! Some recipes you’ll find online add sugar and lemon juice, but, I don’t like adding sugar to the wine as it already has sugar and the peaches will add some natural sweetness anyway.
Does red wine go with peaches?
Red wine and peaches is a great flavor combination. The sweet peach juice compliments the red wine. However, dry white wine will work well too.
Should I use dry wine or sweet wine?
I recommend using a dry, red wine such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chianti, Barbera, Pinot Noir or Merlot for this recipe however, if you prefer to use a sweet wine you like, go for it!
Can I use white wine instead?
Yes. I recommend using a dry white wine such as, Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio. Again, if you like sweet, white wine better, you can still do it.
What kind of peaches should I use?
I recommend yellow peaches but, if you have another kind on hand that you like, try it. I’ve only ever used yellow peaches. Don’t use peaches that are overly ripe or you may wind up with a mushy mess.
The peaches should be firm, ripe and unblemished.
First, peel the skin off of the peaches. If you prefer the skin on, that’s fine just be sure to wash it well.
Then, pour the red wine into the glass.
It’s a simple and delicious end of dinner “dessert” that’s not too sweet. It a perfect ending to any Italian meal!
Peaches soaked in dry, red wine flavor the wine with fresh, ripe peach juice for a delectable summer treat. Celebrate peach season the Italian way.
Make a pitcher and serve it to your family and friends to celebrate the summer!
