This Italian Chocolate Salami Recipe, a.k.a. salame di cioccolato, is a tasty, classic Tuscan dessert that looks like a big salami! It’s a crunchy treat made with dark chocolate, cookies, dried cherries a touch of rum and is a no bake dessert.
Therefore, it’s NOT a meat salami coated in chocolate! My neighbor thought that at first. LOL!!

This traditional Italian dessert is especially wonderful to serve during the holiday season because sweet treats are in high demand and sometimes you want to compliment your cooking baking with something a bit easier with less prep time. Your guests will surely find it tasty.
Just like my Easy Dark Chocolate Christmas Almond Bark with Orange the prep is minimal and makes a great gift for neighbors and friends.
The refrigeration time is three hours but, you can expedite that by putting it in the freezer for an hour.

Italian Chocolate Salami Recipe
This is a delicious Italian dessert made of chocolate that you can make ahead. It’s a chocolate log
Because you can make this chocolate dessert ahead of time, it’s great for parties or the holiday season. It will be great to display on a holiday tray. Add some holly or Christmas greens.
What kind of cookies to use
Maria cookies, shown below, are good cookies to use to make chocolate salami because they’re hard, providing a crunchy texture, and don’t take away from the chocolate essence of this delicious Italian chocolate log.
You can find Maria cookies either in the cookie aisle or interntational aisle of your grocery store. They’re a Spanish and Italian style cookie
If you can’t find a similar cookie to Maria cookies, you may use vanilla waffers as they’re much easier to find grocery stores.

What kind of chocolate to use
You can use the chocolate of your liking. If you prefer to using a higher density of cocoa, you may such as baking chocolate bars. However, if you choose to do that, you may want to omit the cocoa powder in this recipe or it will be too much.
You could even use milk chocolate however, it won’t resemble salami as much but, it’ll still be appealing because it’s chocolate afterall.
I melted the remainder of my son’s solid chocolate bunny from Easter to make this recipe. I weighed it first and then melted in a double boiler on my stove top. It came out perfect and was a good way to use up a pricy solid chocolate bunny that lost its luster somehow.
