Easy Homemade Italian Vegan Garlic Croutons

This homemade Vegan croutons recipe is very easy and delicious and it’s made with simple ingredients you may already have. They’re great to use for creamy soups, especially Creamy Roasted Cherry Tomato Soup and salads. These fresh and crunchy croutons are perfect to make with leftover stale bread.Vegan croutons recipe

Homemade croutons are fresher than store-bought croutons and have fewer preservatives.  However, if you want to use fresh bread for this recipe, you certainly can. You just may need to bake the croutons longer and they may not be quite as crunchy, especially in the middle.Vegan croutons recipe

Crispy croutons add crunch and more flavor to your favorite soup. Of course croutons are necessary to make one of my favorite soups- French Onion Soup! I had it in France once and it was out of this world but, I wouldn’t expect anything less from the French cooks.

Obviously, croutons are mostly used in green salads and taste great with creamy dressings like Ranch, Blue Cheese (my favorite) and Thousand Island.Vegan croutons recipe

What Type of Bread to Use

Vegan croutons recipe

I suggest using any Italian or French bread. Use day old bread.

  • French baguette bread
  • Italian bread sticks (They look like the French Baguette bread in size.)
  • Italian round bread.
  • Sourdough bread

To make this recipe, I used a French baguette I bought fresh at a Farmer’s market that was 5 days old by the time I got around to using it. It was a great way to cut down on food waste. Food is just too expensive these days!

Easy Homemade Italian Vegan Garlic Croutons

Note: You can use more or less of the garlic powder for this recipe. I’m Italian so, that means I LOVE garlic. Therefore, I put in a little more than perhaps the average person may like, especially if you’re not Italian like me.

Also, feel free to use garlic salt instead of the garlic powder and just reduce the salt portion in this recipe.

As I’ve mentioned above, it’s a great way to use up stale bread and you don’t have to use baguette bread.
