greek ground lamb recipes

There’s something about meatballs that people just love! Is it the cute shape, taste or both?

Lamb balls can be served as appetizers if you make them smaller. Add some cocktail toothpicks and tzatziki sauce for dipping. They’re a great alternative to ground beef when you want something different with Mediterrean flair!

I love the Mediterranean diet and grew up with my mom’s homemade Italian cooking. I never realized how lucky I was when I was a little girl. The wonderful things we take for granted when our moms aren’t around anymore (R.I.P.)

Lamb Meatballs

I just love Greek food and have had great Greek food on Long Island. Now, there is a nice Greek family that opened a place near me and I’ve become a regular customer. Their stuffed grape leaves and tzaziki are incredible!

Tzatziki Sauce

greek ground lamb recipes

The first time I tried tzatziki sauce was in Greece. At that time, I’d never heard of it but, it made a lasting impression on me and my Italian family who met me there from Italy. We LOVED it and still do. I was so happy to have found it in the U.S. in later years.

However, it’s so easy to make homemade tzatziki sauce with simple ingredients. This homemade recipe is made with sour cream instead of Greek yogurt.

What frying oil to use

Although olive oil has a lower smoke point than other frying oils, I like to use it for the extra flavor it adds to the lamb. You can use other oils such as vegetable, cannola, corn or avocado oil if you prefer.

Can I bake the meatballs instead of frying them?

Yes, of course you can bake them instead of frying them. They won’t be as tasty though but, they are far less calories and fat. You can put the meatballs on a greased sheet pan or one lined with parchment paper and bake them on 350F for about 15 minutes or so.

Fresh Herbs

If you have fresh dill or fresh mint, you may use that in place of parsley. Being as Italian as I am, I usually have fresh parsley in my refrigerator so I used that. Also, you can add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice or lemon zest to this recipe to give it some more freshness or pizzaz.
