Air Fryer Chicken Leg Quarters
Ingredients
- 4 lbs chicken leg quarters
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp allspice or allspice substitute
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 dashes of cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper (optional)
Summary of Instructions
- First, make the dry rub by combining the seasonings. You can omit the cayenne pepper or add more. It’s up to you.
- Then, sprinkle the dry rub on both sides of the chicken leg quarters.
- Next, place them in your air fryer. I have a Power Oven air fryer that has 5 shelves so I can fit all of the chicken in my air fryer at one time. If you have the basket air fryer, you will need to cook them in two batches.
- Next, cook them at 400F for about 45 minutes. It takes longer to cook chicken leg quarters because they have bones and are larger in size than chicken thighs and drums that are separate pieces. However, if you have a basket air fryer, you’ll have to cook two leg quarters at a time for a shorter period of time (about 20-25 minutes.)
- Last, you must check that the chicken is cooked near the bones before removing them from the air fryer. If the juices run pink or red, leave them in to cook 5-10 minutes longer. The internal temperature of the chicken should be cooked to 165F degrees.
- One more thing: Wait 5-10 minutes before eating it so the juices can settle.
You can always add more or less salt if you’re watching your sodium.
How long does it take to cook chicken quarters in an air fryer?
Larger chicken leg quarters will take longer to cook than smaller ones. Therefore, the range of time depends upon how big is the weight of the chicken leg quarters and at what temperature. This recipe is calls for an air fryer temperature of 400F.
What temperature should chicken be?
The internal temperature of the chicken should be cooked to 165F degrees. Use a meat thermometer to read it.
This is a great recipe to make when you have time to wait for it to cook but, little time for prep. Definitely wait 5-10 minutes before eating it so the juices can settle. This recipe is easy!! It’s perfect for beginner cooks.

Air Fryer Chicken Leg Quarters
Equipment
- Air Fryer
Ingredients
- 4 lbs chicken leg quarters
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp allspice
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 dashes cayenne pepper (ground red pepper) optional
Instructions
- First, make the rub by placing all of the seasonings into a small bowl and stir until combined.
- Next, sprinkle the rub onto each side of the chicken leg quarters.
- Then, place the seasoned chicken leg quarters in the air fryer. Set temperature to 400F and cook for about 45 minutes. Check the doneness of the chicken by cutting close the bone to see if the juices run clear. If they're running pink or red, add another 5 to 10 minutes of cooking time. NOTE: If you have a basket air fryer, you may need to cook two legs at a time and check the doneness before the time. This recipe is based on using the Power Oven air fryer which holds more volume than the basket air fryer.
